Resveratrol is a skincare superstar. As a seasoned product development professional in the Beauty industry and a Health & Wellness coach, I am often asked about the best ingredients to protect your skin and increase its natural beauty. One I always recommend is resveratrol. Your skin reflects both what you put in and put on your body, so choose wisely!

As mentioned, one of my favorite face and body care ingredients is resveratrol, and recently it has been capturing attention for its remarkable skin-enhancing properties. Derived from red wine and the skins of grapes, berries, and other plants, resveratrol offers a potent blend of antioxidants and well-aging benefits that help protect and rejuvenate the skin.

So What is Resveratrol?
Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound found in various plants, notably in the skin of red grapes, blueberries, and cranberries. Its powerful antioxidant properties help plants defend against environmental stressors such as UV radiation, pathogens, and oxidative damage.

When applied to the skin, resveratrol works similarly; it neutralizes free radicals that cause oxidative damage. As a refresher from the last blog post, free radicals, generated by daily aggressors such as UV exposure, pollution, wildfire smoke and stress, are unstable molecules that cause “oxidative stress”. This wreaks havoc on the skin, leading to dullness, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles.

Five ways resveratrol helps your skin:
o  Resveratrol reduces oxidative stress by scavenging the free radicals, helping preserve the skin's structural integrity and minimize signs of dullness and premature aging.
o  Resveratrol possesses potent anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated skin and reduce redness, promoting a calm, healthy complexion. (Chronic inflammation is a common culprit behind many skin concerns, including acne, rosacea, and eczema.)
o  Resveratrol helps maintain skin’s barrier function, protecting against dryness and strengthening its natural defense against external irritants such as the pollution and wildfire smoke mentioned above. Thus, resveratrol helps maintain a resilient, glowing, well-hydrated complexion.
o  It also helps preserve skin resilience and density. Regular use of resveratrol-infused body and facecare products supports collagen production, thus combating visible signs of aging.
o  Resveratrol promotes DNA repair mechanisms within skin cells, mitigating some of the harmful effects of sun exposure. As we know, UV radiation is a primary cause of premature aging such as skin dullness, sun spots, uneven skin tone, wrinkles and sagging. Resveratrol also helps inhibit new photoaging, creating a more luminous and even-toned complexion. (In addition, remember to wear daily sunscreen.)

How to Choose Resveratrol Skin and Bodycare Products:
When selecting skincare products containing resveratrol, consider those with complementary ingredients such as vitamins C and E, which both enhance resveratrol's benefits and also address specific skin concerns. Incorporating resveratrol-infused moisturizers into your face and body care routine optimizes results and promotes healthy, glowing skin and age-defying beauty.
